Leads MetLife’s Technical Accounting Group and supports Internal Controls. Advises global leaders on complex accounting issues, new products, regulatory guidance, financial reporting, and policy changes under US GAAP, IFRS, and U.S. statutory requirements. Oversees technical accounting research, position papers, financial statement reviews, SOX governance, finance policy certification, employee training, stakeholder management, and team development. Also drives process improvement through AI-enabled agents.
Description and Requirements
As a member of the senior leadership team, the AVP will serve as a credible, knowledgeable and trusted resource to the stakeholders and other senior leaders. This position requires a hands-on and quality-focused financial executive with the experience that combines sound financial leadership with proven business effectiveness.
This position will support Global MetLife Leaders in making strategic decisions on highly complex accounting solutions & reporting and special projects related to technical accounting.
This is key position and responsible for handling complex and niche processes within the Technical Accounting Group (TAG) and the Internal Controls Department (ICD).
This being a key position and has an active role consulting with the lines of business on accounting issues emerging from new products launches, new pronouncements/ guidance from authoritative institutions (like IASB, FASB, AICPA, NAIC, SEC etc.), MetLife Accounting Policies, Policy Amendments, Mergers and acquisitions, etc. Responsibilities include leading the team responsible for researching technical accounting issues to determine and document the appropriate accounting treatment, as well as evaluate existing accounting within the business. The role also oversees the team supporting ICD in the global Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) program related to internal controls over financial reporting.
The main responsibilities of the position (which includes oversee, review, monitor):
1. Lead, mentor and manage team to deliver high quality output
2. Build a strong stakeholder connect and manage expectations through Monthly/Quarterly connect with key Stakeholders.
3. Have deep knowledge around emerging accounting issues that may impact MetLife's reporting obligations under US GAAP, IFRS and US Statutory requirements.
4. Research technical accounting issues and accounting policy/procedure matters. Interpret and project the financial impact on Operations, on a US GAAP, IFRS and a US statutory basis.
5. Review and enhance the position papers presenting the Technical Accounting Group's interpretation of the accounting issues/ new product launch/ new contracts entered into by MetLife, provide application of appropriate guidance and conclusion on the accounting treatment.
6. Stay abreast of new accounting changes/ developments that may require updates or enhancements to MetLife Accounting Policies, and oversee production of the monthly technical accounting newsletter.
7. Preparation and review of offline/Online accounting training presentations under U.S.GAAP and IFRS to provide trainings to employees
8. Ability to analyze the Financial Statements and perform concurrent reviews of MetLife's entities financial statements.
9. Assist ICD in performing governance over the SOX program, as well as governing the annual effort to review, update, and certify MetLife's Finance Operating Policies.
10. Offer quality, meaningful analysis, and financial perspectives necessary for technical accounting decisions and strategic planning.
11. Leveraging and improving upon our AI agents to drive process improvements and efficiency opportunities.
12. Other finance and administrative duties as required.
