We are building the Enterprise Payments team from the ground up to help lead Toast’s expansion into enterprise customers (such as Marriott) on a global scale. This team fuels Toast’s growth by developing and supporting a robust payments foundation.

Toast is looking for an Engineering Manager (M1) to lead our Enterprise Payments team. You will lead a team tasked with helping to deliver the most important features for our enterprise customers and directly impact Toast’s success. You will serve as a manager for a team with a global-first mindset, tasked with building highly resilient and scalable features

You are interested in technical work, with enough experience to make sure that engineers are moving in the right direction.
A typical day involves a mix of technical and people management responsibilities. You will be conducting 1:1s with team members, reviewing design documents & PRs, triaging operational & oncall requests, and facilitating discussions across teams.
You will also be responsible for ensuring system health and stability, as well as identifying, prioritizing, and executing technical debts in collaboration with your tech leads.

- Roadmap Execution : Help execute the operational plan and roadmap of the Enterprise Payments team at Toast.
- Team Leadership : Coach individual contributors for professional and technical development and mentor both new and experienced engineers in both technology and leadership.
- Delivery : Track and ensure teams are delivering impact and outcomes in their work.
- Culture : Serve as a steward of an exceptional culture, encompassing both technical excellence and people‑centric values.
- Scale : Guide teams to build systems that will scale to the next order of magnitude of growth.
- Collaboration : Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization—including PMs, SEs, QA, and UX - to help your teams get stuff done and deliver solutions that maximize value.
- Hiring : Hire and develop new team members, building a diverse team that wins together.
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- 7+ years of experience writing, delivering, and operating software in a product based ecosystem.
- Experience mentoring and developing successful teams.
- A strong understanding of fault-tolerant, highly scalable, and secure distributed systems.
- Strong foundations in data structures & algorithms.
- Proficiency in Object Oriented Programming Languages such as Java, Kotlin etc.
- A strong sense of empathy for customers and a desire to prioritize customer success.
- Proficiency in SDLC best practices and experience ensuring data integrity, quality, and consistency
- Excellent cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics.
- You demonstrate humility, empathy and respectfulness.
Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)
- Deep experience in the Payments domain.
- Awareness of Android development frameworks (in Kotlin or Java).

Work Mode: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
