Engineering at Oportun is responsible for high quality and scalable technical execution to achieve business goals and product vision. They ensure business continuity to members by effectively managing systems and services - overseeing technical architectures and system health. In addition, they are responsible for identifying and executing on the technical roadmap that enables product vision as well as fosters member & business growth in a scalable and
efficient manner.

Role Overview:
As a Senior Software Engineer at Oportun, you will be a key member of our engineering team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated software solutions in achieving the charter of the engineering group. Your mastery of a technical domain enables you to take up business problems and solve them with a technical solution. With your depth of expertise and leadership abilities, you will actively contribute to architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions that advance our impact in the market. This is a role where you will have the opportunity to take up responsibility in leading the technology effort – from technical requirements gathering to final successful delivery of the product - for large initiatives (cross-functional and multi-month long projects).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cloud Infrastructure Management:
- Design, implement, and manage scalable and secure cloud infrastructure on AWS.
- Ensure the high availability, performance, and reliability of cloud services.
Kubernetes Orchestration
Utilize Kubernetes to orchestrate and automate the deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
Collaborate with development teams to optimize Kubernetes configurations for diverse workloads.
ArgoCD And FluxCD Expertise
- Leverage above for GitOps-based continuous delivery of applications.
- Utilize packer for packaging, versioning, and deploying applications.
Infrastructure As Code (IaC)
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Maintain version-controlled infrastructure code for repeatability and scalability.
Monitoring And Logging
- Implement and manage monitoring and logging solutions for cloud-based applications.
- Work closely with the DevOps team to enhance observability and troubleshoot issues effectively.
Security And Compliance
- Implement and enforce security best practices for cloud infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Collaboration And Documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and provide technical expertise.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms AWS.
- Expertise in Kubernetes, ArgoCD/FluxCD/Istio/Renovate.
- Proficient in Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Familiarity with containerization and microservices architecture within EKS using Knative Services
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Grafana Stack, NewRelic).
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
