The mission of the Platform Product Group engineers is to build a trusted, scalable and compliant platform to operate with speed, efficiency and quality. Our teams build and maintain the platforms critical to the existence of Coinbase. There are many teams that make up this group which include Product Foundations (i.e. Identity, Payment, Risk, Proofing & Regulatory, Finhub), Machine Learning, Customer Experience, and Infrastructure)
The mission of the International Payments Risk Team is to foster business growth by effectively managing financial risks impacting the business and its users within the international markets. We build flexible, scalable, and customizable engineering systems to detect and prevent fraud, incorporating mechanisms for real-time, near-real-time, and scheduled workflows.
As a fullstack engineer on the team, you will address these challenges by collaborating closely with stakeholders from Consumer Org and Platform Teams. Your responsibilities extend beyond fullstack development, involving collaboration with cross functional partners including Risk Analysts and Banking Ops teams to uncover new fraud patterns that evade existing safeguards, as well as working with the Machine Learning team to develop and train models for fraud detection and prevention
What you’ll be doing:
- Shape the next generation of International Payments Risk architecture that powers Coinbase.
- Articulate a long term technical direction and vision for maintaining and scaling our platform.
- Turn our vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter by working with engineers, product managers and senior leadership.
- Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.
- Add positive energy in every meeting, and make your coworkers feel included in every interaction.
What we look for in you:
- You have at least 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills; you can build reliable backend services and ship fast, accessible UIs that handle real-world edge cases.
- Expertise in languages such as Golang (preferred), Python, TypeScript/JavaScript and frameworks like React
- Experience with databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL), caching systems (Redis), and message queues (Kafka)
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven patterns; you design and integrate cleanly with internal and third-party services.
- You write high-quality, well-tested code to meet the needs of your customers.
- You’re familiar with product and design lifecycles, and collaborating closely with designers, engineers, and product managers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a bias toward open, transparent cultural practices.
Nice to haves:
- You have gone through a rapid growth in your company (from startup to mid-size)
- You've worked on fullstack teams in the finance space.
- You’ve some exposure to online fraud prevention systems or built them in the past.
