The Opportunity
DAT is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our team in Bangalore
Please note: This will be a 1-year contract role. The position must overlap with Eastern Time hours (IST + 9:30) due to the highly collaborative nature of the job. Typical working hours are 2:00 pm – 11:00 pm IST.
Position Overview:We are seeking a driven Senior Platform Engineer to help design, build, and maintain the core platform that powers our SaaS products in the freight and logistics industry. In this role, you will work across application infrastructure, CI/CD, cloud systems, observability, and performance engineering to ensure our PHP/Laravel services, and the platform around them, are scalable, reliable, and efficient.
You’ll play a key role in shaping the architecture of our platform, modernizing legacy systems, improving developer experience, mentoring engineers, and enabling our teams to deliver high-quality software quickly and safely. If working with huge amounts of geospatial data, route optimization, and high-scale distributed systems that help freight move across North America excites you, we want to talk. We are also exploring machine learning and large language models as we continue to build exciting new features for our customers.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and evolve the core platform that supports our Laravel monolith and microservices ecosystem.
- Improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, security, and observability across our systems.
- Develop internal tooling, automation, and CI/CD pipelines to enhance developer productivity.
- Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to design platform-friendly services and APIs.
- Evaluate, introduce, and standardize new technologies, patterns, and architectural approaches.
- Lead performance optimization efforts across application and infrastructure layers.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues across the stack, from cloud infrastructure to application behavior.
- Mentor and support engineers, fostering a culture of strong engineering practices and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the modernization of legacy systems and the migration toward more scalable cloud-native patterns.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant experience.
- Proven experience as a Senior Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Senior Software Engineer supporting production systems at scale.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, service architecture, and platform reliability.
- Experience supporting PHP/Laravel or similar back-end ecosystems (Symfony, Node, Go, etc.).
- Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and performance optimization.
- Hands-on cloud experience with AWS.
- Familiarity with platform-level best practices: scalability, service performance, resiliency, monitoring, and security.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root-cause analysis and long-term solutions.
- Ability to design and implement secure, scalable, high-performance services and infrastructure.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or container orchestration.
- Knowledge of serverless technologies (Lambdas, Fargate).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK).
- Strong MySQL or PostgreSQL query optimization experience.
- Experience with distributed tracing, metrics, logging, or observability tools (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, ELK, etc.).
- Front-end knowledge (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus.
- Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub profile.
A Senior Platform Engineer will be successful in this role when they:
