Senior Frontend AI Automation Engineer- Vice President

We support an extensive range of Capital Markets products and services including Fixed Income (FX, Rates, Credit, Muni, Cash and Derivatives) where Citi is consistently a dominant top 3 player in the market, Equity (Cash, Derivatives, Prime Brokerage, Futures, Listed Derivatives, FXPB) where Citi has a significant growth program to continue to build out its capabilities and services; and Syndicates where we support both FI and EQ new issues and IPOs. We play a key role in supporting our global clients to ensure they have a first-class experience in service performance and strategic partnership.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a high-impact Senior UI Developer for AI-Based Automation Initiatives and our AI enabled Client Inquiry Management Platform to help build next-generation user interfaces that trigger, control, and monitor AI-driven automated workflows.
In this role, you will bridge frontend enterprise applications with backend AI agents, Large Language Models (LLMs), and automation pipelines.

Your core focus is to eliminate manual operational friction by delivering seamless, real-time interfaces for intelligent task execution, automated data extraction/entry, and Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) review loops.

Responsibilities:

• Build AI Automation Interfaces: Design and implement high-performance frontend interfaces that initiate, parameterize, and execute multi-step AI automated actions and workflows.

• Integrate AI Agent & Tool APIs: Connect frontend application layers to backend LLM orchestrators, AI agent frameworks, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, and REST/WebSocket automation endpoints.

• Stream Real-Time AI Execution: Implement low-latency streaming states (SSE, WebSocket), live execution logs, and automated progress trackers for long-running AI tasks.

• Implement Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) Controls: Develop fast, intuitive validation workflows enabling users to review, edit, approve, or override AI-generated actions before execution.

• Build Reusable Automation Toolkits: Create modular components, form-autofill handlers, and action dispatchers that other engineering squads can reuse to integrate AI automation quickly.

• Automation Telemetry & Monitoring: Implement operational dashboards tracking AI task success rates, execution latency, failure modes, and automated time-savings metrics.

• Risk Assessment: Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of relevant experience in Apps Development or systems analysis role
• Full Stack Senior Hands-on Developer
• Strong technology background with working knowledge of evolving technologies.
• Extensive experience system analysis and in programming of software applications
• Experience in managing and implementing successful projects
• Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one area of Applications Development
• Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
• Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
• Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
- Master’s degree (Added advantage) 
Technical Skills:
- Frontend Engineering: 10+ years of professional development experience in modern web technologies (React, TypeScript, Next.js)
- Asynchronous & Streaming Protocols: Strong hands-on experience handling Server-Sent Events (SSE), WebSocket’s, and resilient asynchronous API integration.
- AI & Automation Integration: Demonstrated experience integrating with LLM APIs (internal enterprise AI gateways), tool-calling/function-calling interfaces, and AI agent framework.
- Backend & API Fundamentals: Solid understanding of REST APIs, JSON-RPC, GraphQL, or gRPC endpoints, along with Node.js/Python scripting for automation hooks.
- Data Handling & State Persistence: Experience with client-side caching, optimistic updates, and complex multi-step workflow state machines.  
Nice to have:
- Experience working with Model Context Protocol (MCP) or agent tool-calling ecosystems.
- Familiarity with workflow orchestrators and automation systems
- Background in building internal developer tools, enterprise RPA bridges, or intelligent operations dashboards.
- Experience in automated frontend testing (Jest, Playwright/Cypress) and CI/CD automation pipelines.
