Senior Engineering Manager – MR R&D HW Components, Actuation
The Senior Engineering Manager is part of the Global MR R&D organization within the Hardware / firmware and Embedded programming Components Actuation & Controls team. This role leads a high-performing, multidisciplinary group of embedded control, electrical, and Electronics engineers (including designers and architects) and delivers complex programs that strengthen MR platform capabilities, improve customer outcomes, and support profitability. A key focus is to build and evolve the Actuation & Controls organization and technology portfolio to meet future customer and product-platform needs.
Your Role:
Own end-to-end development of Actuation & Controls hardware / firmware and Embedded programming and control solutions—from concept and design through verification/validation, manufacturing transfer, and lifecycle support.
Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team across control, electrical/electronics, Electronics, and mechatronics domains.
Define the technical roadmap and innovation pipeline for Actuation & Controls, aligned to system requirements and future MR platforms.
Provide technical leadership in control architecture, system integration, and supplier transitions to ensure performance, safety, and compliance.
Build and scale Excellence for control, electrical/electronics, and mechatronics engineering (architects, leads, engineers, and technicians).
Partner cross-functionally with Systems, Verification, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Service, Clinical, and Marketing teams.
Lead supplier transfer and risk-mitigation programs to ensure supply continuity and develop alternate sources for high-risk components.
Ensure adherence to regulatory standards (e.g., IEC, FDA, UL, CE), internal QMS processes, and country-specific compliance requirements.
Drive BOM cost and productivity improvements through design optimization and alternate sourcing strategies.
Inculcate Digital mindset for AI adoption & analysis first approach within team.
Define subsystem architecture within platform and legacy constraints; advise system architects on HW/SW partitioning and make-versus-buy decisions.
Own project planning and execution, including effort estimation, WBS/RACI definition, resourcing, and schedule tracking.
Drive technical reviews and quality practices (DFMEA, DFM/DFA, RMM) to ensure robust designs and effective risk controls.
Support customer escalations and field/service issues through structured root-cause analysis and timely corrective actions.
Maintain reliability, safety, and serviceability standards across the full product lifecycle.
Ensure consistent application of engineering processes, regulatory policies, and Philips governance.
Own functional management responsibilities include hiring, coaching, performance management, and capability/competency development.
Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, product quality, cost, and delivery performance.
Proactively identify and manage technical and program risks, define mitigations, and drive issues to closure.
Stay current with relevant industry standards and contribute to their adoption and continuous improvement.
You are fit if:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, mechatronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
15+ years of experience in end-to-end product development and lifecycle management, including sustaining engineering.
Demonstrated people leadership with a track record of building and sustaining high performance.
Strong experience in actuation and control hardware / firmware and Embedded programming development; medical device or imaging experience is a strong advantage.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex development programs across the full product lifecycle.
Strong knowledge of control principles, system-level integration, and product safety/compliance requirements.
Proficiency with simulation tools (e.g. ECAD tools (e.g., Altium, Mentor Graphics etc), and lab/test equipment (e.g., VNA, spectrum analyzer).
Proficiency with Embedded Programming ( C, C++) & Communication Protocols like Ethernet, CAN, I2C etc.
Working knowledge of relevant standards and regulations, including IEC 60601, IEC 61010, FDA, CE, and QMS frameworks.
Track record in supplier transitions, BOM optimization, and design-for-manufacturing practices.
Hands-on experience with engineering change management (ECM) and design transfer processes.
Experience with system testing, test automation, and test fixture design.
Experience with industrial/supply-base transfer projects and supplier relationship management.
Experience working in a matrixed, global environment.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
Strong customer focus and passion for quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Strong problem-solving skills, including structured root-cause analysis methodologies.
Collaborative, inclusive leadership style with strong interpersonal skills and a Lean/efficiency mindset.

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities.
Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
