Wells Fargo is seeking a fraud analyst
In this role, you will:
- Identify and investigate first-party fraud behaviors, including deliberate non-payment, bust-out, and misuse of credit lines
Detect and monitor payment float patterns (e.g., strategic repayments, credit cycling, temporary balance cover to evade delinquency classification)
Analyze customer transaction and repayment behavior to distinguish between genuine liquidity issues and intentional abuse
Develop and refine rule-based strategies and controls to detect and prevent first-party fraud
Perform segmentation analysis to identify high-risk cohorts based on behavioral, transactional, and repayment signals
Conduct root cause analysis on fraud losses and recommend changes
Partner with credit risk, collections, and underwriting teams to align fraud strategies across the customer lifecycle
Monitor key performance metrics such as roll rates, early delinquency, credit cycling, and fraud loss rates
Support development and enhancement of fraud detection models and early warning indicators
Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal policies
Required Qualifications:
Degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in fraud risk, credit risk, or payments analytics
Strong understanding of first-party fraud typologies (bust-out, credit abuse, payment manipulation, synthetic behavior at account level)
Good grasp of payment behavior dynamics and delinquency triggers
Proficiency in SQL and Excel; experience with Python/R is a plus
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail
Ability to differentiate between credit risk and fraud intent signals
Effective communication skills and stakeholder management
