Job Description SummaryThe Secondary Engineering Manager – Electrical Component will play a key role in supporting the sales and business development by providing technical expertise in the design of electrification solutions for the EHV/HV Substations. This individual will be responsible for system design, material selection, quantity estimation, various engineering activities associated for a project and customer technical consultations. The candidate will also ensure that the proposed solutions meet customer needs while adhering to industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements, delivery and cost-efficiency objectives.
The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, the candidate will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.

Roles and Responsibilities
Specific Role Requirements:
- Design and prepare Engineering drawings (SLD/KLD/PSLD/CRP) as per project requirement in anyone of E-CAD Tool (Ex. Engineering Base software/E-Plan/ AutoCAD Electrical/equivalent) for up to 400/765kV Substations.
- Design/Review the Substation automation system based on IEC61850 & interconnections.
- Review BOQ and Network drawings of PLCC/FOTE engineering and need to interface between CRP & SAS with Telecom Equipment.
- Review equipment drawings of major Substation Equipment for AIS / GIS like Circuit breakers, Isolators, Earth switches, CSD, PDM, Transformers/Reactors & associated Conditional Monitoring Devices etc.,
- Perform CT and VT and its sizing calculations.
- Design and Review the control/Power cable engineering in substations.
- Design the LV/LT auxiliary systems for Electrical Substations and interface with the SAS/SCADA.
- Perform/review the protection relay application / setting calculations and coordination including tripping analysis.
Add-on Competency (Optional)
- Renewable project engg i.e. Solar, On-shore / Off-shore Wind, Battery Storage or hybrid.
- HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications.
- Perform/Review the study on Electrical Power systems and load flow and short circuit studies etc.,
- Competency on specialized tools like CANECO, ETAP, DIG Silent or equivalent
- Working experience in SAS, Database Preparation in the automation/RTU software
- Review / consolidate the IO Mapping with respect to the scheme drawings/troubleshoot of database issues in SAS system / RTU based system.
- Able to work with different make IEDs, Numerical protection relays and BCUs.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in electrical engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience with Degree or 15+ years with Diploma in EHV/ HV AIS & GIS Substation design.
- Good understanding of power system components (transformers, switchgear, protection systems) and renewable energy integration.
- Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) environments with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience of Secondary (CRP/SAS, Aux Systems, Telecom, Interface) engineering up to 765kV/400kV/220KV and HVDC Substations (AIS/GIS/SOLAR/WIND).
- Experience/Knowledge on Relay Testing, Equipment Testing, Control / Protection scheme testing & SAS Commissioning experience (min 1 year) shall be given additional weightage.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements and business needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients.
- Ability to guide/groom team and execute project in line with client/project requirement.
- Ability to expand the competency domain, being able to take new learning challenges.
- Good knowledge of Engineering interface with Civil, Mechanical & Primary/Plant Engineering as per project.

- Involve the project engineering function at ITO phase and make it accountable for engineering budget and technical solution proposed.
- Regionalize and rationalize the engineering function in the region
- Align the ‘Make or Buy ‘strategy for engineering activities within the region and define the needs with the discipline Owners
- Define with discipline owners’ competence requirement per activity function of targeted business.
- Nominate discipline Owners with support of Operations
- Nominate the key people on project execution with support of discipline owners
- Responsible of the engineering offices’ budget (investments, overheads, other costs) with support of regional offices controller
- Consolidate engineering workloads and manage resources issues
- Consolidate skills assessment and perform competence gap analysis on a regular basis and ensure action plan to fill the gap, as per Grid Solutions’ engineering process.
- Define required recruitment plans per discipline
- Ensure implementation of consistent process and tools
- Deploy GRID engineering tools and process, including KPI used to measure engineering performance and effectiveness.
- Secure with the support of IT function the adequacy between Engineering tools and IT infrastructure
- Ensure knowledge capitalization through ROE, toward sales, tendering team and Project Engineering
- Lead and manage engineering teams, and more specifically ensure performance standards, annual objectives, policies and procedures are met and to give coherent objectives across all engineering categories
- Organize and animate engineering community with regular communication
- Ensure the teams have the right level of know-how and competency to perform their responsibilities through coaching and development
- Regularly manage and review performance of lead team according to GE practices.
- Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions and Processes at Grid solutions level and Project Engineering function
- Report or resolve any non-conformances to process in a timely manner
- Evidence of monthly workload plan
- At least a yearly engineering process review for any improvement
- Attends gate reviews with execution team to assess review effectiveness
- Attend tender technical validation meetings to bring Return of experience on past projects and ensure effective involvement of Engineering at ITO phase
- KPI in place, some consolidation done region level with analysis and associated improvement plan
- Budget followed on regular basis (as per finance requirement), anticipation and analysis of potential Budget deviation (Increase or decrease)
- Evidence of regular engineering team information/exchange meeting
- Development of key talents, in both leadership and technical depth, & Yearly skills improvement plan
