The Quality Engineer II is primarily responsible for the management of quality processes within a manufacturing environment.  Typical daily responsibilities include management of non-conforming materials and processes on the production floor and from vendors. This role ensures compliance with industry best practices included in quality standards, customer requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The Quality Engineer II will analyze non-conformances, lead/support root cause and corrective action investigations, and work cross-functionally to improve product quality and process efficiency. This role is critical to ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in a high-reliability aerospace and defense manufacturing environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Non-Conforming Material & Process Management:

• Identify, document, and manage non-conforming material through quality processes.

• Ensure timely disposition of non-conforming material, working with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to determine appropriate dispositions & corrective actions.

• Lead/Support investigations into non-conforming product and processes, utilizing problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Whys, and Fishbone Diagrams.

• Coordinate containment activities to minimize production disruptions and customer impact.

• Maintain and improve the non-conformance management system to ensure traceability, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.

 

Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions:

• Facilitate and drive corrective and preventive action processes to address systemic quality issues.

• Support implementation and verification of the effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence of quality issues.

• Utilize statistical analysis and quality tools (FMEA, SPC, DOE) to drive continuous improvement in defect reduction.

 

Quality System & Compliance:

• Support compliance to quality standards, customer-specific requirements, and other applicable industry regulations.

• Participate in internal and external audits, including customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.

• Ensure proper documentation and records management related to non-conforming material and corrective actions.

 

Supplier Quality & Customer Interface:

• Collaborate with suppliers to resolve non-conformance issues and drive supplier quality improvements.

• Participate in supplier corrective action processes, including root cause analysis and performance monitoring.

• Support customer concerns and investigations related to non-conforming product, providing timely communication and resolution.

 

Process Improvement & Risk Mitigation:

• Work with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements that reduce defects and enhance product quality.

• Participate in risk assessments related to non-conforming material and critical process deviations.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean and Six Sigma projects, to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product reliability.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, a related technical field, or detailed work experience within a manufacturing quality role.

• 3-5 years of experience in quality engineering within the aerospace, defense, or related high-reliability industry.

• Strong knowledge of quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Experience with MRB processes, non-conformance management, and root cause corrective action methodologies.

• Experience with quality tools such as 8D, FMEA, SPC, and Six Sigma methodologies.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings & specifications.

• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.

• Proficiency in quality management systems (QMS), ERP systems, and data analysis tools.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent certification.  Experience with AS9100 / ISO9001 Quality Standards.

• Experience with advanced quality planning tools (APQP, PPAP) and aerospace supplier requirements.

• Hands-on experience with quality inspection and testing methods (CMM, non-destructive testing, or other inspection techniques).
