About Acelab

Our mission at Acelab is to transform how the building industry makes material decisions. We've created a comprehensive platform that connects architects with the right materials for their projects because we believe materials are fundamental to transforming inspired designs into exceptional buildings.

At the heart of our mission is the understanding that material choices shape aesthetics, performance, sustainability, and ultimately, the human experience of built spaces. We recognize that architects face overwhelming challenges in navigating hundreds of thousands of products while trying to capture and maintain their firm's collective material expertise.

Through our Material Hub platform, we aim to:

  • Empower architects to make material choices that truly matter
  • Provide easier access to innovative products and collective knowledge
  • Elevate not just individual buildings but the entire built environment
  • Create a shared language for materials that enables seamless communication between architects, manufacturers, contractors, and clients
  • Preserve institutional knowledge within architecture firms
  • Streamline the material selection and specification process

Our mission statement "Because Materials Matter" encapsulates our commitment to elevating material selection from a fragmented, time-consuming process to a strategic aspect of architectural excellence. By connecting the industry's deepest technical database with material decision-making workflow tools, we're working to ensure that every project benefits from better informed material decisions.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented QA Manual Tester to join our engineering team and ensure the quality of our Material Hub platform. You'll play a critical role in testing new features, identifying bugs, and helping deliver a reliable experience for architects who depend on our platform daily. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity to start your career in software quality assurance while learning about modern web applications and contributing to a product that impacts the built environment.

The Work You'll Do
  • Manual Testing: Execute comprehensive test cases across web and mobile interfaces to verify that features work as expected and meet acceptance criteria
  • Bug Reporting: Document and track defects with clear, detailed descriptions including steps to reproduce, expected vs actual behavior, and supporting screenshots or videos
  • Exploratory Testing: Think creatively to discover edge cases and potential issues that scripted tests might miss, putting yourself in the shoes of architects using the platform
  • Feature Validation: Work closely with product and engineering teams to understand new features and verify they meet requirements before release
  • Regression Testing: Ensure that new changes don't break existing functionality by systematically testing core workflows
  • User Perspective: Provide feedback on usability, user experience, and potential improvements from an end-user standpoint

RequirementsRequired QualificationsCore Skills
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to notice inconsistencies, errors, or unexpected behavior in software applications
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting bugs and collaborating with developers and product managers
  • Problem-Solving: Curious mindset with ability to think through different scenarios and test cases
  • Organization: Ability to manage multiple testing tasks, prioritize work, and track issues systematically
  • Technical Aptitude: Comfort using web browsers, basic understanding of how web applications work, and willingness to learn technical concepts
  • Reliability: Consistent follow-through on testing assignments with strong sense of ownership and accountability
Basic Technical Knowledge
  • Familiarity with web browsers and developer tools (inspecting elements, console logs)
  • Comfortable navigating different operating systems (Windows, macOS) and devices
  • Basic understanding of databases and data (helpful for validating data accuracy)
  • Experience using collaboration tools like Slack, Clickup, or similar project management software
  • Ability to capture and annotate screenshots and screen recordings
Personal Qualities
  • User Empathy: Genuine interest in understanding how people use software and identifying friction points
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to question assumptions and think through different user scenarios
  • Team Player: Collaborative approach with willingness to support team members and learn from others
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift
  • Learning Mindset: Eagerness to grow your testing skills and potentially explore automation in the future
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous internship or coursework in software testing, computer science, or related field
  • Exposure to bug tracking systems (Clickup, Linear, GitHub Issues, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of SQL for database queries
  • Familiarity with API testing concepts or tools like Postman
  • Experience with test case management tools
  • Interest in accessibility testing and WCAG guidelines
  • Background or interest in architecture, design, or construction
  • Experience testing B2B or professional tools
Responsibilities
  • Execute manual test cases for new features and enhancements across web and mobile platforms
  • Perform exploratory testing to identify unexpected issues and edge cases
  • Document bugs with clear reproduction steps, screenshots, and relevant details
  • Verify bug fixes and confirm that resolved issues no longer occur
  • Conduct regression testing to ensure stability of existing features
  • Participate in test planning sessions and contribute ideas for test coverage
  • Maintain and update test documentation as features evolve
  • Provide feedback on user experience and potential improvements
  • Collaborate with developers to understand technical constraints and testing needs
  • Learn and apply testing best practices as you grow in the role
  • Test data accuracy by validating material specifications and information against source data

Impact & Growth Opportunity

Quality Guardian: Serve as the advocate for end users, ensuring architects receive a reliable, polished product

Direct Impact: Your testing directly influences the experience of thousands of architects discovering and specifying building materials

Skill Development: Grow from manual testing into potential automation, performance testing, or other specialized QA areas

Product Influence: Your feedback on usability and user experience helps shape the platform's evolution

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who is naturally curious, enjoys solving puzzles, and takes pride in finding and preventing issues before users encounter them. You don't need years of experience—we're looking for the right mindset, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn. If you've ever used an app and thought "this could work better" or noticed bugs that others miss, this role might be perfect for you.

Join us in building the future of how the architecture industry discovers, evaluates, and specifies building materials.
