Database Engineer

Profile Summary:

We are looking for a backend engineer with significant database engineering experience who will be responsible for maintaining database systems and ensuring their stability, reliability, and performance. You will also work on optimizing MS-SQL queries, procedures, functions, and views as necessary and establishing best practices. You will help solve all database usage issues and devise strategies that can help avoid such issues in the future.

Responsibilities

• Write and optimize SQL queries, procedures, and functions
• Write and optimize SQL data structures including tables, indexes, and views
• Design and implement the API that is consumed by application developers, this includes the procedures inside SQL databases and the .NET library code that is consumed by application developers
• Debug platform operations and behavior to identity issues, resolve common problems, and address functional concerns
• Implement, maintain, and operate replication and archival processes across multiple database environments and technologies

• Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases, structures, and queries
• Prepare documentation and specifications
• Handle common database operational procedures such as replication, upgrades, backups, recovery, migrations, etc.
• Profile server resource usage, and optimize and tweak as necessary
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

The must-haves:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
• 8 - 10+ years of experience with experience in the architecture and configuration of database solutions at the enterprise level
• 8 - 10+ years of hands-on and deep subject matter expertise with one or more databases and operating systems; broad knowledge of database engines
• Expert proficiency with MS-SQL and its variations including Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL databases
• Experience implementing OLTP patterns using modern relational database capabilities
• Experience debugging full stack services and libraries including C#, .NET, JS, Typescript, and Heroku
• Skilled at optimizing large complicated SQL statements
• Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases
• Capable of configuring popular database engines and orchestrating clusters as necessary
• Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
• Capable of troubleshooting common database issues
• Familiar with tools that can aid with profiling server resource usage and optimizing it
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git / Mercurial / SVN.
