JOB DESCRIPTION

Lexmark is expanding and we are looking to bring on additional Systems Administrators/Engineers in our operations team. This team is responsible for the daily operational support for our data centers and our cloud infrastructure that is primarily Azure but also includes AWS and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Windows and Linux Administrator with 3 to 5 years of experience, including cloud and VMware expertise, to join our global team. As a Windows and Linux Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, security, and reliability of our Windows and Linux server environments, both on-premises and in the cloud, with a focus on VMware virtualization. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our infrastructure, resolving technical issues, and supporting our internal teams across multiple geographical locations.

The candidate should be very experienced in building, deploying, and supporting Windows and Linux servers in a large environment. They will need a strong knowledge of networking and integration of multiple systems in a complex environment that spans on prem and cloud infrastructure. Familiarity with deploying 3rd party software packages as part of a system deployment. A strong security background for hardening Windows and Linux systems.

Strong emphasis on automation skills is a major plus. Automation platform is Ansible, PowerShell, and BASH. Experience with Dev/Ops and CI/CD pipeline builds desired.

Must be able to work independently and collaborate with other stakeholders. Strong communication, both written and verbal, is required. Experience working internationally is a plus.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Server Administration:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers in both physical and virtual environments, including on-premises and cloud platforms.
  • Utilize VMware virtualization technologies to deploy and manage virtual machines, clusters, and resource pools.
  • Monitor server performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability across global data centers.
  • Apply patches, updates, and security configurations to maintain a secure server environment.
  • Manage server backups and disaster recovery processes, both on-premises and in the cloud.

Cloud and VMware Management:

  • Design, deploy, and manage Windows and Linux server instances on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or OCI, leveraging VMware integration where applicable.
  • Configure and optimize cloud-based infrastructure components, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Utilize VMware vCenter and vSphere to manage and monitor virtualized environments, including performance optimization and capacity planning.
  • Implement cloud security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and vulnerability management.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect Windows and Linux servers in both on-premises and cloud environments from unauthorized access and vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices, such as PCI-DSS or HIPAA, across global operations.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing for both on-premises and cloud environments.

 System Monitoring and Optimization:

  • Monitor server performance, resource utilization, and capacity planning across global locations, both on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Utilize VMware monitoring tools to identify and address performance bottlenecks, optimize resource allocation, and ensure efficient operations.
  • Identify and implement system improvements to enhance server performance and stability, leveraging cloud services and VMware features where applicable.
  • Analyze system logs and proactively address potential issues before they impact users, across multiple geographical sites.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides for both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Share knowledge with the team and provide training to internal technical staff on server-related topics, considering the global context.

Communication:

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts and information to non-technical individuals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to resolve technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Provide timely and detailed updates on project progress, status, and escalations.

MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019) and Linux distributions (such as CentOS, Ubuntu, Red Hat).
  • Strong understanding of server virtualization technologies, particularly VMware vSphere and vCenter.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Ansible) for task automation.
  • Dev/Ops and pipeline building and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols, firewall configurations, and security best practices.
  • Experience in managing Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other core network services.
  • Cloud experience with platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Experience with VMware virtualization technologies, including virtual machine management, clustering, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders across different geographical locations

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THIS FIELD 

  • 3 to 7 years of experience as a Windows and Linux Administrator with cloud and VMware experience in a global company.
