Business Process Automation (BPA) Engineer - Kolkata

Designs and maintains end-to-end business process automations spanning browser/RPA tools, workflow platforms, backend services, APIs, databases, internal dashboards, and AI-agent workflows. The role develops reliable integrations, applies RAG and vector search, deploys containerized solutions through CI/CD, troubleshoots failures, documents architectures, and identifies manual processes suitable for deterministic or AI-driven automation. Collaboration with product, engineering, and business stakeholders is required.
About the Role
We are looking for a versatile Business Process Automation Engineer who can design and build end-to-end automation - spanning browser/RPA
automation, backend services and integrations, lightweight internal tools/dashboards, and AI-agent-driven workflows. You will identify manual,
repetitive business processes and turn them into reliable, observable, and scalable automated systems, using both traditional automation tooling and
modern agentic AI where it adds real value.

Key Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain automation solutions across browser/RPA automation, workflow orchestration, and system integrations.
• Develop browser and E2E automation using Playwright/Selenium/Puppeteer in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.
• Build and manage workflow automations using n8n, Zapier, Make, or Power Automate, connecting internal tools and third-party services.
• Develop and maintain backend services and REST/GraphQL APIs (Node.js, Python, PHP/Laravel, or Java) that power automation workflows.
• Build simple internal tools, admin panels, and dashboards (React/Vue/HTML-CSS-JS) for monitoring and controlling automations.
• Design and implement AI-agent-driven workflows using LLM APIs, prompt engineering, and agent frameworks to automate judgment-based or
unstructured tasks.
• Apply RAG and vector-search techniques where automations need to reason over internal documents or data.
• Work with MySQL/PostgreSQL/MongoDB and message queues for data validation, state management, and event-driven automation.
• Use Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization to package, test, and deploy automation workflows reliably.
• Debug and troubleshoot automation and integration failures, and drive root-cause analysis across the stack.
• Proactively identify repetitive, manual, or error-prone processes and propose the right automation approach (RPA, workflow tool, custom code,
or AI agent).
• Document automation architecture, configurations, and runbooks; partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
Requirements
Automation & RPA
• Hands-on experience with browser automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium, or Puppeteer.
• Hands-on experience with workflow/iPaaS automation tools such as n8n, Zapier, Make, or Power Automate.
• Exposure to RPA platforms (UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism) is a plus.
Backend Development
• Strong scripting/programming in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or PHP (Laravel), with ability to build and maintain APIs.
• Good understanding of REST/GraphQL APIs, authentication/authorization, and third-party integration patterns.
• Good SQL and database fundamentals (MySQL/PostgreSQL); NoSQL (MongoDB) exposure is a plus.
• Familiarity with message queues/event-driven patterns (RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar) for asynchronous automation.
Frontend / Internal Tooling
• Working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript with React or Vue for building lightweight internal dashboards and admin tools.
• Comfortable with HTML/CSS fundamentals for quick internal UI work.
Agentic AI / LLM
• Practical understanding of LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar), prompt engineering, and function/tool calling.
• Familiarity with agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen for building autonomous or semi-autonomous
workflows.
• Basic understanding of RAG patterns and vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector, or similar).
• Ability to evaluate when an AI agent is the right tool versus deterministic automation, and to validate AI-generated output for quality and safety.
DevOps & Cloud
• Working knowledge of Git, branching, merge requests, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins).
• Exposure to Docker/containerization; cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is a plus.
Good to Have
• Experience with Kubernetes or serverless platforms (AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).
• Experience building multi-agent or tool-using AI systems in production.
• Exposure to observability/monitoring for automation pipelines (logs, alerts, dashboards).
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or driving automation adoption across teams.
