Job Summary
The L2 AV Engineer is responsible for the advanced installation, configuration, and maintenance of high-end audiovisual systems. This role bridges the gap between field technicians and system designers, requiring a deep understanding of signal flow, networked AV, and control systems. You will serve as the primary escalation point for technical issues and ensure system reliability across corporate or event environments.
Key Responsibility
System Integration: Install and configure complex AV hardware, including DSPs, matrix switchers, video walls, and integrated UC (Unified Communications) suites (Teams/Zoom Rooms).
Troubleshooting & Repair: Act as the second-tier support for technical failures, performing advanced diagnostics on hardware, cabling, and software-defined AV systems.
Networked AV Management: Configure and manage AV-over-IP solutions (e.g., Dante, NDI, Crestron NVX) and coordinate with IT teams on VLAN tagging and bandwidth requirements.
Control Systems: Load and test code for control systems (Crestron, AMX, Extron) and perform minor adjustments to touch panel interfaces.
Preventative Maintenance: Conduct "system health checks" and firmware updates across the fleet to minimize downtime.
Technical Documentation: Create and update "as-built" drawings, signal flow diagrams, and user-facing "how-to" guides.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience in AV integration or high-level live event support.
Certifications (Preferred): AVIXA CTS (Certified Technology Specialist)
Manufacturer certs (e.g., Crestron Technician, Biamp Tesira, Q-SYS Level 1/2)
Dante Certification (Level 1 & 2)
Hardware Knowledge: Proficiency with Shure/Sennheiser wireless systems, Poly/Logitech conferencing gear, and Christie/Epson projection.
Networking: Strong grasp of TCP/IP, subnets, and PoE/PoE+ standards.
Soft Skills
Analytical Thinking: Ability to isolate failures in complex, multi-layered signal chains.
Communication: Translating technical "jargon" into simple instructions for non-technical stakeholders.
Mentorship: Ability to guide L1 technicians and onsite support staff.
Hands-on experience with:
Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR)
Video conferencing platforms
BYOD integrations
Ability to troubleshoot AV-related hardware and software issues efficiently.
Excellent customer support and communication skills.
Willingness to support meetings outside regular business hours when required.
