The region boasts several major universities and tech programs that are changing the local startup landscape and creating a thriving tech community in the process. Accenture provides professional services that incorporate cloud, cybersecurity and AI solutions. According to the company’s 2024 fiscal report, its staff is comprised of over 750,000 employees who provide “360-value” services in an effort to benefit clients, shareholders and communities alike. 

 

Telecommunications company Jio provides prepaid mobile and home internet services throughout Kolkata and the rest of the country. Founded in 2007, it aimed to serve India’s youth demographics but grew in popularity for its plans and speedy connectivity speeds, which include 6G services.

 

Genpact provides consultancy and development services to help various organizations make digital transformations. The company employs 100,000 individuals and specializes in implementing artificial intelligence, data analytics and cloud computing services. It works with multiple Fortune 500 companies.

 

Bengaluru-based Wipro Limited provides tech services like AI, cybersecurity and cloud computing to help businesses with their infrastructure and digital transformation needs. Wipro began as a vegetable oil producer in 1945 and has grown into one of India’s largest tech companies. Its Kolkata location is in the city’s Bidhannagar District.

The company is known for developing enterprise-grade applications, like its watsonx generative AI platform. In its early years, IBM was also influential in the semiconductor industry by creating a one-transistor DRAM, which was crucial in developing computer memory.
